This is a permanent, full-time vacancy (75 hours per fortnight)

About the role

The Young People Directorate (YPD) is solely focused on young people in the youth justice system. It delivers statutory services to young people in accordance with the Young Offenders Act 1994 and the Young Offenders Regulations 1995. These services are delivered in the courts, community and detention centres. 

The YPD is responsible for the safety, security and rehabilitation of young people both in the community and custody. Its core objective is to reduce reoffending among young people through services to divert young people away from the criminal justice system; programs and services for young people on orders in the community; and programs and services in custody.

The YPD is guided by the Young People Strategy 2025-2030, which is aligned with the broader Corrective Services Strategy 2025-2030 however with a specific focus on young people. The Strategy includes the importance of diversion as the primary preferred intervention for young people and the implementation of the new Model of Care (MoC) for youth detention centres.

The Maintenance Officer is responsible for the coordination and organisation of all aspects of building maintenance including fire safety, essential services, equipment, emergency power supplies and general maintenance of the Centre.

Suitability Requirements

Through the recruitment process, we will be looking for a candidate who can demonstrate skills, experience and attributes in relation to the following:

  • Builds Productive Relationships – You must be able to maintain effective working relationships, build rapports and promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Communicates and Influences Effectively – You must be able to engage well in both written and verbal communication with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • You will possess a building trade qualification or significant experience in the general maintenance of building and infrastructure and all associated equipment

Eligibility

  • WWC positions – In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.
  • To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the duration of the contract.
