We are seeking to establish a pool of Library Officers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Help Build Our Library From the Beginning

Opening in 2027, Alkimos North East Primary School (PS) will provide a high-quality education for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 within a culture of belonging, high expectations and strong community partnership.

As a foundation school, Alkimos North East Primary School has a unique opportunity to intentionally establish the culture, learning environment and teaching practices that will shape the school's future. From the outset, the school will be committed to creating a connected community where every student is known, valued and supported to achieve success.

The Role

Working with the Manager Corporate Services, leadership team and teaching staff, the Library Officer will support the establishment and day-to-day operation of our new library.

Part of the role includes:

  • Administer library systems which ensure library records are up-to-date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are accessible and available to students, staff and parents at all times.
  • Supporting students and staff to select appropriate materials.
  • Prepare and monitor the library budget and make recommendations for new library resources.

As a foundation school, there will also be an exciting opportunity to help establish the processes, routines and organisation of the library, contribute to the development of our collection and create a space that students genuinely want to visit.

Suitable applicants will ideally:

  • Be passionate about children’s literature, reading and fostering a love of books, creating a welcoming library where students are excited to explore, discover and read.
  • Be highly organised, proactive and detail-focused, with the ability to establish and maintain effective library systems, resources, routines and records.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families and staff, working collaboratively with teachers to ensure the library and its collection support curriculum, learning and the diverse needs of students.
  • Be digitally confident, flexible and resourceful, able to manage library technology, resources and competing priorities while embracing the opportunity to help shape a foundation school library from the very beginning.
