People and Culture Directorate provides a full range of people management services to support the business objectives of the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions which includes the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, Rottnest Island Authority and Zoological Parks Authority.

The Directorate provides administrative and advisory services to all employees in relation to payroll, personnel functions (recruitment through to termination), safety and health, welfare management, workers compensation, employee relations (creation, negotiation and bargaining of employment agreements) and learning and development.

We currently have an opportunity for a Health and Safety Consultant to join our team.

The Health and Safety Consultant contributes to the provision of an integrated work health and safety system, including the development and review of policies, practices and procedures.

The role coordinates the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of health, safety and wellbeing programs to support a safe and compliant working environment.

The position undertakes incident investigations across the department and works with divisional staff to identify issues and support the implementation of appropriate outcomes and resolutions.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following five (5) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than two (2) pages in total.

  1. Relevant tertiary qualification or higher education in a health and safety related discipline, or relevant transferable skills and degrees.

  2. Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of work, health and safety programs and strategies.

  3. Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of training, education and awareness programs in work health and safety.

  4. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills, communication skills, and consultative skills, including the ability to effectively influence and maintain stakeholder relationships to achieve health and safety initiatives.

  5. Demonstrated knowledge and application of workplace health and safety principles and practices.

Note: Applicants who meet criteria 2 and 5 to a high degree will be particularly well regarded.
