The Insurance Commission of Western Australia is a state-owned Government Trading Enterprise that provides motor injury insurance to 2.7 million Western Australian motorists and manages the self-insurance arrangements of the Western Australian Government. The Opportunity

Applications are invited for the position of Head of Infrastructure.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, you will provide strategic and technical leadership across server, cloud, storage, backup, networking, database and middleware platforms. You will ensure these critical services are secure, resilient, scalable and aligned with the Insurance Commission’s business objectives, Technology Strategy and transformation roadmap.

This influential leadership role is responsible for:

  • Setting the enterprise infrastructure strategy, architecture and standards.
  • Leading infrastructure modernisation, cloud adoption, technology currency and technical debt reduction.
  • Ensuring the effective delivery of Tier 3 infrastructure services and Tier 2 and Tier 3 database and middleware services.
  • Providing senior leadership during critical incidents and overseeing disaster recovery, business continuity and operational assurance.
  • Enabling business and technology transformation through effective infrastructure planning, resourcing and technical leadership.
  • Managing strategic vendors and service providers to deliver strong service quality, commercial outcomes and value for money.
  • Building the capability of specialist teams and fostering a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Providing clear, trusted advice to executives and stakeholders on infrastructure risks, priorities and investment decisions.

The Insurance Commission will offer a five-year contract with a competitive remuneration package to attract an outstanding candidate.

About You

You are an accomplished technology leader who combines strategic thinking with strong operational and commercial capability. You can translate organisational priorities into secure, resilient and fit-for-purpose infrastructure services while leading people and partners through ongoing change.

You will bring:

  • Relevant tertiary or industry qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise infrastructure strategy and operations in a complex technology environment.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud-first, secure-by-design and resilient architecture principles.
  • Experience applying contemporary IT service management practices, including ITIL and DevOps, to improve reliability and customer outcomes.
  • The ability to use automation, observability and data-driven insights to improve service performance, cost and user experience.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams, including workforce capability development, succession planning and organisational change.
  • Strong vendor, managed service provider and commercial management capability.
  • Executive-level communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
