The Insurance Commission of Western Australia is a state-owned Government Trading Enterprise that provides motor injury insurance to 2.7 million Western Australian motorists and manages the self-insurance arrangements of the Western Australian Government. The Insurance Commission is a major self-funded statutory authority at the heart of the Western Australian community.

The Opportunity

Applications are invited for the position of Head of Information Security.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, you will shape and deliver the Insurance Commission’s cyber security strategy, strengthen enterprise resilience and provide trusted advice to executives and key decision-making forums.

This influential leadership role is responsible for:

• Setting and delivering the Insurance Commission’s cyber security strategy.
• Strengthening cyber governance, risk management and organisational resilience.
• Leading priority security initiatives and measurable improvements in cyber maturity.
• Providing clear, strategic advice and reporting to executives and committees.
• Building a high-performing multidisciplinary team and a strong security culture.

The Insurance Commission will offer a five-year contract with a competitive remuneration package to attract an outstanding candidate.

About You

You are a strategic and pragmatic cyber security leader with demonstrated experience developing and delivering cyber security strategies in complex environments. You can turn priorities into actionable programs, lead large-scale uplift initiatives and communicate technical risks clearly to executive and non-technical audiences.

You will bring:

• Relevant tertiary or industry qualifications.
• Deep knowledge across core cyber security domains, including identity, cloud security, governance, risk, detection and response.
• Strong understanding of recognised frameworks and regulatory requirements, such as the Essential Eight, NIST and ISO 27001.
• Experience overseeing security controls, operational practices and continuous-improvement programs.
• Strong analytical judgement and the ability to prioritise pragmatic, risk-based outcomes.
• Proven success leading and developing multidisciplinary teams, including mentoring emerging leaders.
• Highly developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build shared ownership of security outcomes.
• A collaborative, accountable leadership style aligned with our values of Care, Courage and Collaboration.
