About the WAEC

Western Australia is a great place to live, work and deliver elections. And it is getting better as we transform the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) into a contemporary leader in electoral service, modernising systems, strengthening capability and lifting the experience for voters and stakeholders.

Elections might look straightforward from the outside, but behind every polling place, ballot count and result is technology that simply works, and the people who keep it that way. That is where you come in.

At WAEC, we are guided by four values: Make it Count, Check Every Box, Focus on Fairness and Achieve Together. We are committed to recruiting people whose behaviours, leadership style and approach to public service align with these values, recognising that cultural contribution is as important as technical capability.

The Opportunity

As our Finance Officer, you'll play an important role in ensuring WAEC's financial transactions are processed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with approved delegations, policies and legislative requirements. Working as part of a supportive and collaborative team, you'll primarily manage accounts payable activities, while also contributing to accounts receivable processes and broader finance operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their finance career in a purpose-driven organisation. You'll gain experience across a range of finance functions, work closely with stakeholders across WAEC and contribute to the sound stewardship of public resources.

From time to time, you may be deployed to support election readiness and delivery, playing a direct role in Western Australia's democratic process. This is one of the most unique and rewarding aspects of working at WAEC.

The role sits within Finance and Business Services and reports to the Finance Operations Coordinator.

About You

You are organised, detail-oriented and enjoy delivering high-quality customer service. You are comfortable working in a high-volume processing environment, managing competing priorities and ensuring financial transactions are completed accurately and on time.

With experience in accounts payable or transactional finance, you can confidently apply financial procedures and controls, maintain accurate records and use finance systems to support efficient processing. While your primary focus will be accounts payable, you are also willing to undertake accounts receivable activities as required.

You are approachable and collaborative, but also confident in applying financial policies and procedures. You are comfortable asking questions, following up outstanding approvals and constructively challenging transactions that do not meet requirements. You know when to escalate issues and demonstrate sound judgement when balancing customer service with compliance obligations.

You will be able to:

  • Apply financial procedures, delegations and controls consistently, identifying and escalating issues when required.
  • Build positive working relationships while maintaining appropriate financial controls and compliance requirements.
  • Deliver responsive and professional customer service to staff, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to strong data integrity and compliance outcomes.
  • Demonstrate resilience and professional judgement when following up approvals, resolving issues and managing competing priorities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and contribute to an efficient and effective finance function.
