Baldivis Gardens Primary School (PS)  is seeking to establish a pool of enthusiastic, dedicated and highly motivated Education Assistants - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

As an Education Assistant - Special Needs, you will support individual students and small groups through the implementation of planned educational programs and behaviour support strategies. You will assist students in developing communication, self-regulation, social and academic skills across a variety of learning environments and contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of student progress.

We are seeking caring, proactive and responsive team members who ideally:

• Support whole-school approaches and initiatives.

Suitable applicants will display interpersonal and communication skills and work collaboratively with teachers, school staff, families and external agencies to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment. While working under general supervision and following teacher direction, successful applicants will also demonstrate initiative and work effectively as part of a team to support student achievement.

Suitable applicants will ideally have experience working with students presenting a range of additional needs, including:

• Autism Spectrum Disorder (verbal and non-speaking)
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Trauma-related needs
• Challenging behaviours
• Physical disabilities
• Medical and health conditions

Experience in Team Teach, hoist training and PEG feeding would be highly regarded.

  • Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  • Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
