We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants (SNEA) for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Special Needs Education Assistants, along with all other staff members at Dayton PS ideally:

Suitable applicants should have a passion for working with young children and a desire to see each child succeed, regardless of their abilities. They should be interested and experienced in working with neurodivergent children, as many students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Developmental Language Disorder and dyslexia/dyscalculia/dysgraphia are supported by SNEAs at Dayton PS.

Suitable applicants will ideally be organised, committed and have a broad range of skills and experience to support students with diverse learning needs and disabilities. They should be capable of working under teacher supervision or independently with individual students or small groups to deliver differentiated learning that meets their individual needs. Suitable applicants should use their initiative and be flexible and adaptable while supporting the delivery of planned education programs, and use their understanding of inclusion, differentiation, and intervention strategies to assist students with diverse learning needs.

Suitable applicants should be willing to work in various contexts across the school from kindergarten to year 6, as required. They will ideally have a high level of interpersonal skills to enable them to work collaboratively with other staff members to meet the needs of students with special needs and be committed to reflective practice and open to ongoing professional learning opportunities to ensure all students have access to a quality education.

  • Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
  • Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
