We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants (SNEAs) for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

With an Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) of 1002, we have around 52% Language background other than English (LBOTE) and over 60 different nationalities represented at the school. The school’s diversity and respect for difference are a feature, enabling our students to become positive, resilient, and confident about their futures. An Intensive English Centre supports the development of language skills for students new to Australia.

The school learning environment is extremely positive with a strong focus on student wellbeing and the development of social emotional learning through the Homeroom program and a strong Good Standing Policy. Approved Specialist Programs in Soccer and Environment & Life Sciences (EaLS) supports a wide range of General, Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) pathways. With over 50 years of history, Lynwood is diverse and much loved by the school community and staff. The passion and commitment of students, staff and community members working together in a spirit of absolute positivity about what our students can achieve, is a significant hallmark of this wonderful school.

The Role

SNEAs at Lynwood play a role in supporting the inclusion, engagement, and wellbeing of students with disability, learning difficulties, and complex needs. Working under limited guidance, SNEAs collaborate closely with teachers, the Program Coordinator Inclusive Learning, and Student Services to implement Documented Plans, tier 2 and 3 targeted interventions, and evidence-based programs that maximise student independence and achievement. They actively contribute to the creation of safe, positive and inclusive learning environments, aligning their practice with the school’s values and behaviour support frameworks.

Suitable applicants will ideally display a strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and comorbid mental health diagnoses, including Pathological Demand Avoidance. Applicants with experience applying trauma-informed and positive behaviour support strategies to assist students in developing self-regulation, communication, and social skills are encouraged to apply. The role of an SNEA at Lynwood requires adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to respond to student needs with empathy, consistency, and professionalism.

Applicants with a Certificate 3 or 4 in Special Needs and experience working in the secondary setting are highly desirable. While not essential, experience in delivering small group and individualised learning programs such as MacqLit, Direct Instruction, social skills groups, and other literacy and numeracy interventions is beneficial. Enthusiasm for engaging in ongoing professional learning and contributing to collaborative team processes across the Learning Area EA model is highly desirable. Our ideal applicants should be proactive, reflective, and committed to supporting improved outcomes for all students through high-quality, inclusive practice.
