As an Education Assistant - Mainstream you should be able to utilise strong written and oral communication skills to enable the implementation of individual or small group programs and possess the ability to support the general health and well-being of students. Ideally someone who has Intervention experience.
Working under the direction of our Learning Support Coordinator, you would work with small groups of students requiring additional support in early reading. You should deliver planned intervention sessions consistently, support the monitoring of student progress and work collaboratively with classroom teachers and the Learning Support Coordinator to ensure intervention is responsive to student need.
Suitable applicants will ideally:
- deliver MiniLit, Macqlit and other planned intervention with consistency and fidelity
- support the development of foundational reading skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding and reading fluency
- establish positive relationships with students while maintaining high expectations for learning and engagement
- support the collection and recording of information about student learning and progress
- communicate effectively with teachers, Education Assistants and school leaders
- be organised, reliable and able to work with a high degree of initiative under teacher direction
- contribute positively to a collaborative team focused on improving student outcomes.
Experience delivering MiniLit, Maqlit and/or another evidence based intervention program would be highly regarded. Applicants who have strong early literacy knowledge and are willing to learn are also encouraged to apply.
While literacy intervention will be the primary focus of this position, suitable applicants may also provide broader support to students and teaching programs as required.
