The Role

The role of the Education Assistant - Lead is to lead, mentor, coach, and model good practices for other Education Assistants. You would be an important and valued leader of the Learning Support team. The successful applicant should operate collaboratively with superordinates and subordinates and be able to build and maintain effective team-based relationships. We value individuals who are highly professional, organised and display excellent communication skills, in line with the Department of Education’s Code of Conduct, drawing on these attributes when working with staff and the school community.

The Education Assistant – Lead contributes to the design and implementation of documented plans and provide solutions and support to teachers and education assistants, which promote positive student behaviour and improved educational outcomes in the classroom. It is highly desirable for applicants to have experience in working students with a range of learning needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Eligibility

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

  • A CV of three to four (3-4) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position; and
  • A three (3) page statement addressing the selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF
    • Demonstrated considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of education programs and/or behaviour management plans; and ability to identify problems and assist teachers and other Education Assistants in the development of strategies and solutions.
    • Demonstrated well developed oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, mentor, coach, induct and train other Education Assistants and professional teams, including providing advice and evaluating education programs.
    • Demonstrated well developed written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to coordinate, collect and present student data at a whole school community level in a meaningful way.
    • Demonstrated well developed organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate staff rosters and relief to assist in the delivery of effective education programs.
