Expression of Interest - Director -OEDC

This fixed term full-time position (75 hours per fortnight) is available until 31 December 2027

The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC), on behalf of the Office of the Electoral Distribution Commissioners (OEDC) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Director – OEDC on a fixed term contract or secondment until 31 December 2027.

The OEDC plays a critical role in supporting Western Australia’s electoral distribution process. Through rigorous analysis, comprehensive consultation and impartial advice, the Office supports the Electoral Distribution Commissioners to undertake electoral boundary reviews that shape representation for Western Australians.

This is a unique leadership role where your work will directly support the integrity, transparency and effectiveness of Western Australia's democratic processes.

The Opportunity

As Director, you will lead and manage the Office of the Electoral Distribution Commissioners (OEDC) in the planning, management and delivery of electoral boundary reviews under the Electoral Act 1907.

You will provide strategic leadership and expert advice throughout the electoral distribution process, ensuring legislative requirements are met and reviews are conducted with transparency, integrity and procedural fairness.

You will lead complex analytical, governance and stakeholder engagement activities, including overseeing public consultation processes, preparing reports and briefing materials, coordinating legal and policy advice, and managing the implementation of review outcomes.

The role requires a highly capable leader who can navigate complex legislative environments, manage competing priorities and maintain productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, local governments, elected representatives, community groups and members of the public.

As head of a small specialist office, you will lead and develop staff, oversee operational and financial resources, manage strategic risks and ensure the Office delivers high-quality, timely and evidence-based outcomes.

This is a rare opportunity to contribute directly to an independent statutory process that underpins representative democracy in Western Australia.

About You

We are seeking a collaborative and strategic leader with demonstrated experience in:

  • Leading teams and delivering organisational outcomes in complex environments.
  • Providing high-level strategic, legislative or policy advice.
  • Managing significant projects, programs or reviews involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Building effective relationships and influencing positive outcomes.
  • Governance, risk management and accountability frameworks.
  • Communicating complex information clearly and persuasively.

You will possess highly developed leadership, stakeholder engagement and analytical skills, together with the ability to operate effectively in an independent statutory environment.

Relevant qualifications in law, public administration, governance, policy, planning, economics, political science or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
