We currently have multiple casual positions and one fixed term, part time (0.6 FTE for 6 months commencing 30 October 2026) parental leave cover available.

This recruitment process may also be used to fill casual vacancies and future opportunities within the next 12 months as the Dental Service continues to respond to growing demand and expand its workforce

• Standard days – hours are between 8am – 16:36pm, Monday to Friday
• Casual staff should be available for a minimum of 2 days per week

About the Role

Perth Children’s Hospital and Neonatology are seeking experienced Dental Assistants to join our Dental Service and support the delivery of high-quality dental care to children and young people with a range of complex clinical needs.

This is a unique opportunity to develop your skills within a diverse and specialised paediatric hospital environment. You will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of dental specialties, including paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, cleft and craniofacial, maxillofacial, prosthodontics, emergency dental care and dental trauma.

As a Dental Assistant, you will work alongside Dental Specialists, General Dentists, Registrars and Oral Health Therapists to provide clinical and chairside assistance across our outpatient clinics, operating theatres and other hospital settings.

You may care for children presenting with acute dental emergencies, facial trauma or infection, as well as children who require hospital-based dental treatment because of complex medical or developmental needs.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the care of children and young people requiring specialist, emergency and medically complex dental treatment.
• Preparing, selecting and tracking reprocessed dental instruments and equipment.
• Assisting with intra-oral records, photography, radiographs and other clinical records where appropriately qualified and trained.
• Maintaining clinical areas, equipment and instruments to a high standard of hygiene and safety.
• Monitoring dental stock and assisting with ordering and maintaining appropriate supplies.
• Supporting the coordination of patient appointments, investigations and procedures using hospital information systems including medical records, and imaging.
• Providing dental health education and assisting with patient arrivals and departures and responding professionally to enquiries from patients, families and staff.

If you have prior experience as a Dental Assistant together with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and carers, and enjoy working as part of a team, we encourage you to apply.

Experience in specialist dentistry, dental theatre, paediatric dentistry or a hospital environment will be highly regarded but is not essential.

About our Onboarding Program

You will be supported through a structured induction and buddy-based training program, initially developing your skills within the outpatient environment before progressing to theatre. Training will be tailored to the different specialty areas, providing you with the opportunity to build your knowledge and confidence in a complex and dynamic hospital setting.
