About the Role
As a Coordinator Public Information, you’ll join the multi-award-winning Strategic and Emergency Communications team and be part of a 24/7 roster helping keep Western Australians safe and informed.
Your main responsibility will be to issue alerts and warnings, making sure they are accurate, easy to understand and delivered quickly. You’ll be based in our State Operations Centre, working closely with operational personnel and other stakeholders to ensure the right information reaches the community at the right time.
You will work closely with the media and digital media teams to ensure communication messages are consistent, accurate and aligned across all channels.
When you’re not issuing warnings, you’ll be contributing to projects and initiatives that strengthen DFES’ public information capability.
This is a unique and rewarding role where you’ll be at the heart of the emergency response while also helping to drive longer-term improvements in how we communicate with the community.
Leadership Behaviours are applicable to this role, and you are expected to demonstrate the relevant behaviours aligned to the context of Personal Leadership. Additional details on expected behaviours are attached.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking motivated and adaptable team players who excel in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
You’ll need good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise messages, along with excellent attention to detail and time management.
Building positive relationships will come naturally to you and you’ll be comfortable using digital communication platforms as part of your work. Most importantly, you’ll need the ability to be calm, collaborative and confident in making decisions in high pressure environments.
As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates may be invited to complete psychometric and/or capability assessments to help us identify strengths and working styles.
Experience in communications, media or emergency management roles will be highly regarded.
