At Girrawheen Senior High School (SHS), we believe strong relationships, high expectations and quality teaching are fundamental to improving student outcomes. The Role
Girrawheen SHS is seeking passionate and dedicated teachers to join our team in a Year 7 Generalist Teacher role supporting students at educational risk. This is a rewarding opportunity for an educator who is committed to improving outcomes for students who require additional academic, social and emotional support to successfully transition to secondary school.
The suitable applicants would teach Year 7 students across English, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), and Science. These students are typically working below year-level expectations and require highly effective teaching practices, targeted intervention, and a strong focus on relationship building to support engagement, attendance and achievement.
Applicants with a primary teaching background are strongly encouraged to apply and will be highly regarded. The nature of the role, with its focus on Year 7 students, foundational literacy and numeracy development, and supporting students during their transition to high school, aligns closely with the knowledge, skills and experience developed in primary school settings.
We are seeking teachers who can create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued, supported and capable of success. The suitable applicants should be passionate about building positive and meaningful relationships with students, fostering a strong sense of belonging, and instilling a love of learning that encourages students to engage, persevere and achieve success.
The ideal candidates would ideally display a strong understanding of explicit instruction, curriculum differentiation and evidence-based teaching practices. They should use data to identify student needs, monitor progress and develop targeted learning programs that build students' literacy, numeracy and critical thinking skills. An ability to adapt learning experiences to meet diverse needs and celebrate individual growth will be highly regarded.
The suitable applicants will ideally work collaboratively with colleagues, student services staff, education assistants, families and external agencies to provide a coordinated approach to supporting students at educational risk. They should display resilience, flexibility and a commitment to ensuring every student is provided with the opportunity to experience success and develop confidence as a learner.
