Position Profile: Are you an expert clinician with a passion for leading high-quality care during critical moments? The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our vital STARS (Safety Team Afterhours Response Services) team. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) STARS provides advanced clinical nursing expertise in the recognition, assessment, escalation and management of children experiencing actual or potential clinical deterioration. 

STARS is fundamental in after-hours clinical safety at Perth Children’s Hospital, responding directly to medical emergencies across all inpatient wards. Our core aim is to provide safe, high-quality after-hours clinical care through a coordinated, multi-disciplinary, and integrated response to clinical review and deterioration.

In this role, you will work in close partnership with the Hospital Clinical Manager and after-hours Medical Teams. The role supports safe, timely and effective responses to deteriorating patients across the hospital, working collaboratively with medical, nursing and allied health teams to improve patient outcomes and reduce preventable adverse events.

Within the application system you will be presented with the following three (3) questions designed to assess your qualifications against the Essential Selection Criteria outlined in the attached Job Description Form. Please review the Essential Criteria carefully when preparing your responses.  These questions allow you to showcase your relevant skills and experiences in detail, with a generous word limit of 500 words per question.

  1. Describe a time when you took a leadership role in managing the care of a complex patient at risk of clinical deterioration. What was your role as the nursing lead of the response team, and how did you support both staff and family during this time? (Related to Essential Criteria 2)
  2. How do you foster effective collaboration within a multidisciplinary team, particularly during emotionally challenging situations requiring escalation with patients and their families? (Related to Essential Criteria 3)\\
  3. Can you give an example of how you’ve managed a challenging stakeholder relationship in a related to escalation? (Related to Essential Criteria 4 & 5)
  • A current resume which summarises your experience and includes both phone and email contact details of two professional referees, with at least one being a recent supervisor/line manager.

  • This is a rostered position which may include after hours, night duty, weekend and / or public holiday rostered shifts.
