The opportunity is being offered as a ANF RNM Level 2.  Increment will be determined by the successful applicant’s skills, knowledge and ability in the role. 

About the Role

Perth Children’s Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse to join our Research team and contribute to the delivery of innovative clinical trials focused on improving diabetes management and outcomes for children and young people.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and advance your expertise in clinical trials, research coordination, diabetes management and evidence-based practice.

Working in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager – Research and Principal Investigators, you will coordinate and support the delivery of clinical trials while providing high-quality, patient-facing nursing care to children and young people participating in research.

You will work closely with children and families, including those who are newly diagnosed with diabetes and those living with chronic or complex diabetes conditions, providing education, support and care. You will advocate for research participants and their families, provide education and act as a key resource for children, families and health professionals helping to address concerns and support safe, positive participation in clinical trials.

The research portfolio may include commercially sponsored clinical trials investigating treatments and interventions designed to improve blood glucose management and diabetes outcomes. Depending on the study protocol, participants may undergo procedures such as blood and urine collection, ECGs, imaging, fasting and administration of investigational medications via oral, injection or intravenous routes.

Key responsibilities include

• Advocating for research participants and their families, ensuring their wellbeing, safety and rights remain central throughout their involvement.
• Coordinating the day-to-day activities of research studies, including participant recruitment, clinical assessments, data collection and database management.
• Providing education and support to children, young people and families regarding their research participation, diabetes management and study requirements.
• Administering investigational medications and undertake clinical procedures in accordance with approved research protocols and scope of practice.
• Monitoring participants, identifying and responding to clinical concerns, and liaising with the multidisciplinary team and Principal Investigators regarding participant care and ongoing study participation.
• Supporting clinical staff to understand research activities and assess the appropriateness of participant involvement in studies.
• Maintaining accurate research documentation in accordance with study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) requirements.
• Contributing to evidence-based practice, continuous quality improvement and the development of research capability within the team.

About You

• Applicants must be eligible for registration in the category of Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• Clinical experience in diabetes is highly regarded, as is experience working in diabetes research or clinical trials.
• Experience as a Diabetes Nurse Educator will also be highly regarded.
• Prior experience in a paediatric care environment is desired but not essential.
