About the Role

Perth Children’s Hospital & Neonatology are seeking a Biomedical Technical Specialist to join our team and ensure high standards of quality assurance in the maintenance, repair, and performance testing of medical equipment, particularly in critical care areas.

Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager – Reactive Maintenance, you will support lifecycle management of a wide range of contemporary electronic medical equipment and complex computer/network applications and integrations. As a subject matter expert, you will work closely with clinical, technical, and research staff across our organisation to understand technology requirements, diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems.

As a senior member of the team, you have opportunity to share your expertise by providing training and supervision to technical staff, and education and advice to clinical and other hospital staff on the safe and effective operation of medical equipment.

Quality assurance is central to this role. You will support the implementation and maintenance of quality systems, ensuring accurate documentation of maintenance and performance testing, and contributing to internal and external quality audits, seeking opportunities to strengthen processes and improve work practices.

You will also contribute to the evaluation, procurement, replacement and lifecycle management of medical equipment, helping ensure technology remains fit for purpose and aligned with evolving clinical needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing and supporting quality assurance activities for medical equipment maintenance, repair and performance testing, including equipment used in critical care areas.
• Support the Electronic Medical Records Program, providing technical input on design, integration requirements, troubleshooting and upgrades. 
• Ensure comprehensive documentation of quality assurance, maintenance, and upgrade work on electronic medical equipment, accurately reflecting labour, parts, and consumables expenditure using the department's Asset Management System.
• Manage compliance with Quality Management System requirements, including maintenance of ISO-compliant quality documentation and facilitation of internal and external Quality Audits.
• Ensure continuous quality improvement, consultation, and feedback processes to meet and exceed customer needs and concerns.
• Make informed decisions regarding the replacement of aging equipment and the purchase of new equipment.
• Evaluate new technologies and develop maintenance and quality assurance procedures as needed.
• Participate in the Department's after-hours on-call service on a roster basis, including service provision to critical care departments.

If you have sound experience in electronics medical equipment repair, maintenance, and contemporary understanding of lifecycle management, quality assurance and continuous improvement principles, we encourage you to apply.

The ideal candidate will have experience supervising technical staff and managing maintenance activities within budget and project frameworks.

Project management experience is of benefit, especially in managing medical equipment replacement funded by government grants.

Our team is dedicated to the upkeep and quality assurance of medical equipment and technologies used in patient care across the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS). We ensure continuity of a broad range of medical equipment, technologies, and instrumentation from digital thermometers and blood pressure monitors through to advanced imaging equipment such as CT, MRI, and X-ray machines.

We interact and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to provide quality technological systems and support, and quality assurance across acquisition of specialist equipment, repair and maintenance, replacement, and sustainability efforts, ensuring all equipment meets Australian regulations.
