DFES are looking for qualified Automotive Electricians

Permanent

We are looking for Automotive Electrician to join our dedicated fleet and appliance team who ensure our fire trucks and appliances are kept in safe working order so our firefighters can attend emergency incidents and keep the community safe. 

We currently have one (1) permanent full-time position available for immediate filling.

This selection process may be used to fill other similar at level vacancies that arise within twelve (12) months. Applicants deemed suitable but not recommended may be considered for those roles.

About the Role

The role is responsible for:

  • Service, repair and maintain firefighting and emergency vehicles, equipment such as aerial appliances and hand-held firefighting equipment.
  • Provide technical advice and training to ensure the safety of staff and the community.
  • Undertake paid, on-the-job training including Introduction to Firefighting, 4WD Operations & Recovery, OEM and more.
  • Complete the usual bits of paperwork - nothing too crazy, just worksheets, inspection forms and fault reports.

To be successful in this role you will need to have a strong safety focus with the ability to work in a team environment, a committed and driven attitude and strong work ethic, and exceptional diagnostic, troubleshooting and interpretive skills.

Prerequisites

  • Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology.
  • Current Australian Manual C Class driver's license (HR Desirable).

Employment Conditions and Additional Information

DFES is an emergency services organisation and all employees may be required to work or travel outside of normal business hours to assist with emergencies and additional allowances may apply.

This position is required to be part of an out of hours contact roster and return to work outside hours when requested to complete urgent work

National Police Certificate

A condition of employment for new employees of DFES is that a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) is provided prior to commencement.  

Choice of Super

The Fire and Emergency Services (Superannuation Fund) Regulations 1986, prevents DFES from offering choice of super for permanent appointments. Those appointed permanently, only have the following two options:

  • Remain with their existing GESB Superannuation account; or
  • Join the Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund (Click here for more information).

Those appointed on a fixed term contract do have choice of super, however if converted to permanent, employees will need to choose one on the two options listed above.
