Stretching from the Pilbara Region in the south to the Northern Territory border in the east, the Kimberley Region manages over 3,800,000 hectares of land and water on behalf of the Western Australian community. Visitor highlights include Purnululu, Windjana Gorge, Geikie Gorge and Tunnel Creek national parks, as well as world class marine-based experiences including Horizontal Falls and Montgomery Reef.
The region has two major work centres: one in Broome which accommodates the regional office and West Kimberley District; the other in Kununurra (East Kimberley District).
We are currently seeking a Assistant Fire Operations Officer to join our team.
Under the immediate direction of the District Fire Coordinator, this position:
- Contributes to the preparation of burn prescriptions and assists with prescribed burning operations.
- Assists with district fire management activities and works as outlined in strategic operations and management plans.
- Provides oversight and control of all fire equipment and supplies including vehicles, plant and heavy-duty vehicles.
The position can operate across all the services within the region depending upon the development program engaged in and the operational needs of the region.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.
- Some knowledge (Level 1) and experience (Level 2) in working in natural land management or a closely related field or a related technical area, with a preference for some knowledge of fire management pertaining to biodiversity conservation.
- Broad understanding of the issues involved in planning and implementing works programs.
- Some knowledge of the principles involved in developing and monitoring budgets.
- Demonstrated physically fit and able to pass the departmental fire fitness test. Ongoing willingness and ability to participate in fire management activities that contribute to bushfire suppression and prescribed burning operations commensurate with capability, capacity, training and level of experience.
