About Our Team:

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Western Australia offer support, advice and treatment to children and adolescents from birth to 18 years who are experiencing mental health challenges.

About the Role:

The Aboriginal Mental Health Coordinator (50D) position is based at the CAMHS Corporate Office in Nedlands.  The role works with the CAHS and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service management teams in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the Aboriginal Mental Health Service providing mentoring and support to Aboriginal mental health professionals and workers, undertaking stakeholder consultation and liaison. Provides cultural leadership to the mental health service in consultation with the CAHS Director of Aboriginal Health.

Key Responsibilities Summary

  • Provide leadership, consultation, and strategic advice on the development, implementation, and coordination of Aboriginal Mental Health Services.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support Aboriginal Mental Health staff, contributing to recruitment, performance development, and culturally respectful workforce practices.
  • Lead the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, and reporting processes to support service delivery and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with CAMHS teams, Aboriginal health services, Elders, communities, and traditional healers to develop integrated and culturally responsive models of care.
  • Facilitate culturally respectful assessment, treatment, case management, advocacy, and support for Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.
  • Lead and deliver education, training, and professional development initiatives to enhance cultural capability and Aboriginal mental health knowledge across the workforce.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with community organisations, service providers, Elders, and key stakeholders to strengthen service coordination and community engagement.
  • Contribute to governance, quality improvement, safety, and continuous service development activities while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and standards.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, applicants found suitable for this position may be considered for other ‘similar’ vacancies within CAHS and/or the wider WA public sector. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision. These can be permanent full time, permanent part time or fixed term full time, fixed term part time opportunities with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
