This is a Permanent Full Time or Permanent Part Time appointment.

The new Geraldton Health Campus Acute Psychiatric Unit, opening in mid‑2026, offers a meaningful opportunity for an Aboriginal Health Practitioner to support culturally safe and recovery‑focused care for consumers and their families. You will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team to deliver health assessments, screening and monitoring within your scope of practice. You will build strong links with local health services, support safe medication and vaccination administration and help patients make informed care decisions. A key focus is providing cultural safety, guiding patients and families through the health system and promoting a holistic, culturally centred model of care. You will use your knowledge of the unique health needs of Aboriginal people to support better outcomes for the Midwest community.

Position Profile: The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will be responsible for working with health care teams to provide culturally safe, holistic person-centred clinical care, health education and promotion for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people within Western Australia. Asspecified in the summary of duties, these also include working within their scope of practice and considerate of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia professional capabilities.

Area Profile

The Midwest health region of Western Australia covers more than 600,000 square kilometres, nearly one fifth of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. The region is located in the northern middle section of Western Australia and incorporates four health districts - Gascoyne, Geraldton, Midwest and Murchison.

The $188 million redevelopment of Geraldton Health Campus is an investment in the Midwest, delivering:

• an expanded emergency department
• a new intensive care unit and new high dependency unit
• a new integrated mental health service inclusive of an adult mental health inpatient unit and a mental health short stay unit
• a reconfigured main entry

A community reference group with local consumers, staff and representatives from local organisations helped inform the architectural drawings.

The group also shaped cultural recognition of the traditional land owners and representation of regionally significant landmarks and industries in the new facility.

The suitability requirements below are derived from the Job Description Form and define what will be assessed to determine your suitability for the role:

1. Be of Aboriginal descent and registered with the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Health Practice Board of Australia.
2. Strong communication and people skills, including the ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with others.
3. Experience working with Aboriginal people to support the delivery of primary health care services in hospital, community or home settings.
4. Ability to build effective relationships with health care providers and work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
