The Department of Housing and Works delivers and maintains essential social housing and critical infrastructure across Western Australia—including schools, hospitals and police facilities.

We manage tenancy services, support housing provision in remote Aboriginal communities, and oversee government employee accommodation.

Through office accommodation solutions, State Fleet management, procurement, planning and asset policy, we empower other government agencies to deliver their best.

About The Role:

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by increasing Aboriginal business participation in government contracting opportunities across WA.

As the Aboriginal Business Engagement Manager, you will work with Aboriginal businesses, organisations and communities to increase awareness of opportunities and support participation in contracts and projects delivered through the Buildings and Contracts (B&C) division.

These contracts and projects relate to non-residential building works and maintenance services across the State.

You will build strong relationships with Aboriginal businesses, industry representatives, regional stakeholders and internal teams to identify opportunities, strengthen supplier capability, and support Aboriginal businesses to participate in tender and contract processes navigate tender and contract processes.

You will also provide advice to internal stakeholders and contribute to improving internal processes and practices that support local, regional and Aboriginal business engagement.

About You:

You are a capable relationship builder who understands the importance of trust, respect and genuine engagement. You are passionate about creating opportunities for Aboriginal businesses to participate in projects for government.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural beliefs, values and protocols.
  • Experience building productive relationships with Aboriginal businesses, organisations and communities.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to work independently, show initiative and identify practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of procurement, tendering or contracting processes, or the ability to quickly develop capability in this area.
  • A genuine commitment to helping Aboriginal businesses access and succeed in government contracting opportunities.
