
This is a 12 month fixed term, part-time (0.7FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2026
North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre (NEMLDC) is a specialist school for children who have Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). We provide specialist speech, language and academic intervention for children from Kindergarten to Year 2. Staff members work in a collaborative team that includes teachers, speech pathologists, school psychologists, education assistants and the administration staff. Priorities at NEMLDC focus on developing strong oral language skills to support literacy. Professional learning in the priority language areas is provided for new staff through our induction program and there is ongoing professional learning for all staff.
NEMLDC has classes over three campuses. The main campus is on the same site as West Morley Primary School in Dianella. We also have a campus in Balga on the same site as North Balga Primary School and a campus on site with Beechboro Primary School. All three Campuses are administered by NEMLDC and the successful candidate will deliver services to all campuses. The Role
The successful applicant will ideally work closely with teachers and speech pathologists to plan and provide appropriate classroom support for student development and engagement. The Occupational Therapist would collaborate with Allied Health, external agencies, multidisciplinary school teams and parents about early intervention processes to support students’ physical, emotional and educational progress at school.
The Occupational Therapist works collaboratively with teaching staff and families to support students with a range of learning, sensory processing and motor needs within the school environment. The role focuses on consultation, guidance and capacity building for staff to implement effective classroom accommodations and strategies to support student participation and learning. The successful applicant would develop, plan and evaluate support plans to address students’ functional needs, including motor development, sensory regulation and access to learning. They should plan and coordinate whole-school and classroom-based programs that staff can implement to support students’ gross and fine motor skills and regulation. The Occupational Therapist will also liaise with families and external specialists, provide information about community services, and prepare professional reports to support communication with external providers and applications for additional supports. Administrative tasks and documentation required to support service delivery may also form part of this role.

- Demonstrated knowledge of best practice and current research in the areas of speech and language impairment and co-morbidities of motor and sensory difficulties.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor and evaluate the progress of students with language impairment in the areas of attention difficulty and self-regulation.
- Demonstrated well developed interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team and liaise with other agencies.
- Demonstrated well developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports.
