This is a permanent part-time 0.6 FTE position commencing Term 3, 2025

The Role

Denmark Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a permanent enthusiastic and dedicated AIEO to join our team in a part-time capacity.

As an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO), the successful applicant will ideally be well organised, reliable, and flexible whilst providing support and assistance to Aboriginal students, their parents/caregivers, teachers, and the community through the knowledge, understanding and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

The AIEO should ideally be passionate about enabling Aboriginal students to be successful as Aboriginal people and will provide a safe and supportive environment for Aboriginal students. The successful applicant should display a strong link to Aboriginal culture and establish positive working relationships with our families and local community.

An ability to work well both in teams and individually to achieve successful outcomes for students and their families will be highly regarded. At Denmark SHS, we embrace events such as National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week and the AIEO is a key driving force behind its success.

Our School

Denmark SHS is in the Shire of Denmark within the Great Southern region of Western Australia and near the banks of the Denmark River. Built on its current site in 2000, the school is set on 19 hectares of land one kilometre east of the town centre. The school provides a comprehensive Year 7 to Year 12 secondary school education to 420 students with approximately 4% identifying as Aboriginal. We are a Follow the Dream outreach school.

At Denmark SHS, our commitment to supporting our students to ‘strive to achieve’ is embedded in everything we do. We seek to provide every student with a pathway to a successful future. Quality student outcomes are the result of our fostering the qualities of resilience and social capability; literacy and numeracy competency; and through developing teamwork, critical and creative thinking, innovative and entrepreneurial skills.

Further, our focus on staff development serves to both enhance their practice and model the value of being lifelong learners to our students. Our key priorities work together to create the conditions for our students to thrive – student success; teaching excellence; health and wellbeing; relationships and partnerships. Our Inclusivity Working Party is currently focused on establishing and maintaining our Reconciliation Action Plan. The AIEO is a valued member of our team.
