The Department of Education’s Service Planning and Coordination Directorate provides the systems and processes that enable an integrated model of support to schools, enabling them to access the services and advice they need to address their student achievement challenges.
The Directorate comprises four branches:
- Service Allocation, Prioritisation and Coordination
- Service Planning and Contracts
- Service Response
- Swimming and Water Safety
The Role
The Service Response branch seeks to appoint a School Psychologist Consultant to join their team of consultants at Statewide Services, Padbury. General registration with the Psychology Board of Australia is a requirement to work as a School Psychologist Consultant with the Department of Education.
We have a permanent opportunity of 1.0 FTE available, however , psychologists prepared to work at a part time FTE may also be considered. While Statewide Services, Padbury is the physical location of the Service Response branch, there may be opportunity to negotiate an alternative Department of Education work location in the metropolitan area.
The Service Response branch responds to requests for assistance from schools and provides access to expert services and psychological advice, with a focus on schools and students with the most complex and challenging needs. The branch also contributes to interagency responses to high risk and complex issues related to child safety and wellbeing.
As a school psychologist consultant, you will be required to work flexibly and cooperatively within a diverse and skilled team and to build strong working relationships by regularly communicating with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will facilitate collaboration between lead school psychologists, schools, regions and Statewide Services as well as external agencies in supporting the development of specific intervention programs for students with complex educational needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for psychologists to gain state-wide experience and develop the ability to influence systems level change through cross agency collaboration, policy development, implementation and evaluation.

Eligibility
To work with us, you must:
- Hold general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

- Demonstrated high-level experience in coordinating specialised support and in providing appropriate professional learning to a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated high-level oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team and with a range of internal and external clients.
