About the role

The Terrestrial Zoology Curator is responsible for the curation and management of the Arachnology collection within the Department of Terrestrial Zoology. The Curator will be expected to promote the WA Museum's science, undertake research (including fieldwork), attract external funds for research activities, and contribute to presentations and exhibitions to promote learning and understanding of Western Australian  fauna. The role is also expected to develop collaborations with academic institutions, and promote electronic delivery of information about the biology and taxonomy of WA’s arachnids and myriapods.

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who enjoys a challenge and wants to make a difference.

The successful applicant will be expected to excel in the following areas:

  • Collections Development and Management: Implements collecting policy and uses international standards to ensure management, security, preservation, documentation and accessibility of the Arachnology collection.
  • Research: Conduct original research and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. Seek external funding for research. Develop a comprehensive research program that includes collaboration at the national and international level including student supervision. A proven track record of publishing high quality papers in peer-reviewed journals is essential.
  • Public Programs & Exhibitions: Contributes to the Museum's public programs, communicates research through talks and lectures to a general audience (community groups, families), and via social media. Answers public enquiries and participates in special public events; plays a significant role in the development of exhibitions, and contributes to popular publications for general readership,
  • Provides financial information and reports (e.g. KPIs) as required by the Head of Department, and performs essential duties of other Curators in their absence. May be required to perform duties of the Head of Department.
