The Role and our Branch
The Student Engagement and Wellbeing Division is seeking an experienced and skilled leader who has a well-developed understanding of State, Commonwealth and Department directions in student engagement and wellbeing, alongside a deep connection and commitment to schools and the people in them.

The Student Engagement and Wellbeing Directorate sits within Statewide Services which provides the services and supports required by schools to enable student achievement, with a focus on those students and schools that need it most. The directorate builds the professional capability of schools to improve student achievement by enabling teaching and learning excellence. It influences system strategy and system input into government/cross-agency initiatives to improve outcomes for children and young people.
As Manager Student Engagement and Wellbeing you will lead and implement system strategies and priorities to support schools to improve the engagement and wellbeing of students including professional learning and resources to strengthen the capability of the profession.
Your expertise will inform and contribute to system responses to State and Commonwealth initiatives related to student engagement and wellbeing and facilitate the alignment of policy, resources, and services in mental health and wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, social and emotional learning, health and child safeguarding.
A core component of this role is to build the support and engagement of various internal and external stakeholders, to negotiate and facilitate cooperation to achieve the effective delivery of programs and services. This will require you to harness and build productive connections in consultation with schools and the profession and to work within and across teams and business units to integrate service, support and advice to schools and the system.
As an effective change agent and strategic leader, you will lead the operations of the branch in accordance with the Department’s strategic directions, policies and relevant legislation. You will work to create a harmonious and effective team culture and support staff to perform at their best individually, as a team, and with others.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
