We are seeking to appoint a Career Practitioner, a specialist teacher who will support the career development of students. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers with an interest in student career pathways. Our Career Practitioner will work with the school leadership team and embed career development and work exposure activities into curricular and co-curricular programs.
Career Practitioners will be innovators and have the ability to work collaboratively across a school. They will implement programs and provide resources to embed career development across learning areas. We are looking for a teacher that enjoys working with students to help them imagine and connect with their future career aspirations. Confidence to make decisions and enact necessary curriculum reform will be essential attributes for the role. Teachers in this specialist role will also need to be competent in the interpretation and analysis of system and school-based data.
To be competitive for this role, a high level of knowledge about the diversity of career pathways, with an understanding of school contexts in relation to local employers, community agencies and training providers is desirable. Career Practitioners are also expected to have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with and share information easily with students, staff, parents, training providers, employers and industry.
If you don’t hold a recognised Graduate Certificate in Career Development, you must be willing to complete a qualification - which will be funded by the Department. Time will be made available for the successful applicant to complete the qualification, and study will be incorporated into the role in the first 12 months. If you already hold an equivalent qualification, recognition of prior learning may be possible.
The successful applicant appointed to the Career Practitioner position will be required to:
- Attend a two-day induction program scheduled for 2nd and 3rd December.
- Complete a Graduate Certificate in Career Development if you don’t already hold one.

This will be a two stage selection process and you will need to demonstrate your competency - in the context of this role - against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional Knowledge
- Professional Practice
- Professional Engagement
Stage One:
In the first stage, applicants will need to download and complete the attached CV and Written Statement templates. Instructions for completing the templates can be found within the documents.
The completed templates will need to be attached as documents to your online application - so they should be completed and saved prior to applying. Applicants will be assessed on information provided in their CV and Written Statement in this stage.
Applicants assessed as competitive in the first stage will be invited to the second stage of the process.
Stage two:
In the second stage, competitive applicants will be asked to participate in a further form of assessment.
In this stage the selection panel may seek referee validation and comments. This information will form an important part of the assessment process. Please ensure you include the contact details for four work related referees in the template CV who can verify the claims made in your application. One referee should be your current line manager.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application following this second stage of the recruitment process.
