We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader – Saleyard Operations to support and lead day-to-day livestock operations at the Muchea Livestock Centre (MLC), Western Australia's largest dual species livestock selling facility.
This is a unique opportunity to play an important role in one of Western Australia's key agricultural assets. Working closely with the Saleyard Manager and Operations Manager, you will provide hands-on leadership to operational staff and assist in ensuring livestock sales and associated activities run safely, efficiently and effectively.

The Western Australian Meat Industry Authority (WAMIA) is an independent statutory authority established under the Western Australian Meat Industry Authority Act 1976. WAMIA supports a successful and sustainable Western Australian meat and livestock industry that benefits regional communities and the State.
WAMIA's responsibilities include ownership and management of the Muchea Livestock Centre, regulating abattoirs and providing advice to Government on industry matters.

About the Opportunity
We currently have one (1) permanent full-time opportunity for a Team Leader – Saleyard Operations available for immediate filling.
The Team Leader – Saleyard Operations plays a critical role in supporting the Saleyard Manager to ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of the Muchea Livestock Centre. The position is responsible for leading frontline livestock operations, coordinating staff and contractors, and ensuring resources are allocated to meet the operational needs of the business. The role supports livestock sales, private weighing, transhipment, feeding and other livestock activities while maintaining high standards of animal welfare, biosecurity and workplace safety.
Reporting to the Saleyard Manager, you will:
- Provide hands-on leadership and day-to-day supervision of saleyard operational staff, helping to ensure the right resources are available at the right time to support operational requirements
- Assist with coordinating livestock operations across cattle and sheep sales, private weighs and transhipment activities.
- Support the safe and efficient movement and handling of livestock.
- Promote and maintain high standards of work health and safety, animal welfare and biosecurity.
- Provide guidance, support and mentoring to team members.
- Work collaboratively with livestock agents, producers, transport operators and other stakeholders.
- Assist with resolving operational issues and responding to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
- Undertake administrative and operational tasks associated with the effective delivery of saleyard services.

The ideal candidate will be a practical, reliable and motivated leader with experience working in livestock operations, agriculture or a similar operational environment.
You will be a strong team leader with the ability to coordinate day-to-day operations, organise resources effectively and support your team to deliver safe and efficient outcomes. You will be confident assigning work, adjusting priorities to meet changing business needs and ensuring staff and contractors understand their responsibilities and work to agreed standards.
The ideal candidate will bring significant livestock experience, preferably within a saleyard, farming or related agricultural environment, together with strong leadership and communication skills. You will be someone who can provide clear direction, mentor team members, maintain positive working relationships and contribute to a culture of accountability, customer service and continuous improvement. Your ability to think ahead, solve problems and respond calmly to operational challenges will be highly valued.
You will also have a strong commitment to animal welfare, biosecurity and workplace safety, and understand the importance of maintaining compliance while delivering efficient livestock services.

- Current driver's licence.
- Participation in WAMIA's Q Fever Vaccination Program.
