Christmas Island District High School (DHS) is located 360 km southwest of Java and 2600 km northwest of Perth. We cater for approximately 300 students from Pre-primary to Year 12 on our main site and more than 20 Kindergarten students at the Tom Patterson Kindergarten Centre. Our school is well resourced and extra support is provided to classes in the areas of literacy, numeracy and pastoral care. Our commitment to valuing the home languages of the island means that students are offered the opportunity to learn both Mandarin or Bahasa Malay languages in the primary school.

The Role
We are actively seeking primary teachers who ideally possess excellent interpersonal skills with a natural ability to communicate effectively and foster genuine relationships with parents, students, and colleagues. As primary teachers, suitable applicants would promptly establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment, setting high expectations and cultivating a growth mindset, while nurturing students' social and emotional development.
As a member of our team, you would leverage high-impact teaching strategies and showcase experience in designing and delivering engaging literacy and numeracy programs. An understanding of differentiation to meet diverse student needs is highly important, along with proficiency in utilising various assessment tools to inform progress, provide constructive feedback, and guide future classroom planning. Experience in teaching English as an additional language or dialect is highly regarded.
