The Role
We invite you to apply to become part of an inclusive school community, and as a member of the Sawyers Valley PS team, you will join a positive, professional culture, underpinned by high expectations for all. Our mission at Sawyers Valley PS is to create and foster an environment where students become independent leaners, enabling them to take responsible control of their lives and contribute meaningfully to society. We seek staff who bring a strength- based approach and who prioritise building productive relationships with students, families, and the broader community. The personal qualities that you would bring to this role are highly regarded including a commitment to team before self; solutions focussed problem solving; fostering a growth mindset; engaging in regular reflective practice and acting on feedback.
Educators at Sawyers Valley PS provide innovative and engaging learning experiences and a broad culturally inclusive curriculum, built around the general capabilities of the Australian Curriculum, to promote confident and capable individuals, successful lifelong learners in literacies and STEM, and active and involved citizens. We aim to support the social, emotional, and academic growth of each student through targeted teaching, evidence-based practices, supportive learning environments and a strong pastoral care approach.
High performing learning communities consistently use evidence-based teaching and learning practices that prioritise the reflective use of data and embedded differentiation to support all students. Teachers at Sawyers Valley PS should promote successful engagement by adopting high impact teaching strategies, using ongoing formative assessment to provide feedback to students, measure student progress, differentiate teaching and plan next steps in learning.
Suitable applicants will ideally be committed to restorative and reflective teaching practices through active participation in a culture of professional growth. This may include ongoing opportunities for coaching, classroom observation and feedback as well as teachers who are committed to their own professional learning to ensure they maintain and build on contemporary, evidence-based approaches. With a strong belief that together we can make a difference to each child, teachers participate in whole school, phase of learning and curriculum teams to develop and commit to a whole school approach to teaching and learning.
We are ideally seeking educators with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills who can foster strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Teachers in our Middle Childhood phase should be able to build on the play-based, experiential, and intentional teaching approaches established in the Early Childhood phase of the school.
Ideally, Sawyers Valley PS is also seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Digital Technologies Teacher to deliver engaging programs for students from Pre-primary to Year 6. This one-day-per-week role is attached to the advertised classroom teaching position. The successful applicant should have a sound understanding of the Western Australian Digital Technologies Curriculum and be skilled in creating safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments through effective classroom management, explicit teaching, and differentiated instruction. We are particularly interested in educators who can connect learning with contemporary technologies and real-world applications, developing students' creativity, computational thinking, and problem-solving skills.
