The School

Albany Senior High School (SHS) is an Independent Public School for students in Years 7 to 12, proudly serving the Albany community and committed to our vision of empowering students to make a positive difference to our global community.

We are a school with a strong sense of identity and an exciting direction for the future. Our work is guided by three strategic priorities: Belonging and Connectedness; Effective Teaching and Learning; and Growth and Leadership. Together, these priorities reflect our belief that students achieve their best when they feel known, valued and connected; when they experience high-quality, evidence-informed teaching; and when students and staff are supported to learn, grow and lead.

At Albany SHS, relationships matter. We are committed to an inclusive and culturally responsive school where high expectations are matched by high levels of support. Our values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience underpin the way we work together and contribute to a positive learning environment for every student.

Our teachers are part of a professional learning community focused on continually improving practice. Collaboration, reflection, shared responsibility and professional growth are important to us, and we value staff who are willing to contribute their expertise, learn alongside others and take opportunities to lead.

Our diverse educational offerings provide pathways and opportunities that recognise the different aspirations, strengths and interests of our students, including our Gifted and Talented program.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Health and Physical Education (HPE) Teacher to join our dedicated and collaborative team.

The successful applicant should be an effective classroom practitioner who builds strong relationships with students and creates learning environments where young people feel they belong, are appropriately challenged and understand how to improve. They should bring a genuine passion for HPE and recognise the important contribution HPE makes to the wellbeing, engagement and development of young people.

Consistent with our focus on Effective Teaching and Learning, the successful applicant will ideally use evidence-informed teaching practices, purposeful assessment and knowledge of their students to plan responsive and engaging learning experiences. The successful applicant should be able to inspire curiosity and a love of learning in their students, cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment where every student understands their learning journey and feels connected to our school community. They should be willing to work collaboratively, reflect on their practice and contribute to the continued development of consistent, high-quality teaching across the school.

We are also looking for someone who wants to grow with our school. At Albany SHS, leadership is not limited to formal positions. We value staff who contribute to their team, share expertise, embrace professional learning and take opportunities to lead improvement, programs and experiences for our students.

Ideally, applicants will display:

  • a genuine passion for teaching HPE and improving outcomes for young people;
  • experience teaching Health Studies, including Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and General courses, and Physical Education across Years 7 to 12;
  • effective teaching practice that provides appropriate support and challenge for diverse learners;
  • the capacity to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, families and the broader school community; and
  • a commitment to collaboration, professional growth and contributing positively to the strategic direction of Albany SHS.

If you are an educator who values connection, quality teaching and continual growth, and you want to contribute to a school where staff and students are encouraged to learn, lead and make a difference, we welcome your application.
