The Role

Lynwood Senior High School is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) Teacher to support students from diverse linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds. Suitable applicants ideally would have the knowledge, skills and experience to support newly arrived migrant and refugee-background students, including those who may have experienced interrupted schooling, have emerging literacy skills or require support to transition successfully into mainstream learning. While the principal teaching responsibilities of this position will be within EAL/D, the ability to also teach Year 7–12 English classes would be highly desirable.

Suitable applicants will deliver differentiated EAL/D teaching across the beginning, developing and consolidating stages of English language acquisition. They would ideally display strong knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and the EAL/D Progress Map, using assessment to identify language needs, monitor progress and plan targeted teaching.

A key focus of the role will be developing students’ confidence, English language proficiency and capacity to engage successfully across the curriculum. Ideally, suitable applicants should provide engaging, culturally responsive learning experiences that support transition into mainstream classes and progression towards further education, training and post-school pathways.

Suitable applicants should exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, build positive relationships with students and families, and create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment. They should advocate for EAL/D learners and work collaboratively with classroom teachers, support staff and the school’s EAL/D Committee to strengthen practice and improve student achievement. Suitable applicants should be a reflective and responsive practitioner who can differentiate teaching to meet diverse language, literacy and learning needs and contribute positively to a collaborative school culture.
