This is a 15 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 4, 2026 with possible extension and/or permanency

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher with a passion for supporting students to connect their school-based learning with their future pathway aspirations. The successful applicant will work closely with the school leadership team to refine and strengthen existing career development programs and embed meaningful career learning and work exposure opportunities across curricular and co-curricular programs.

The Career Practitioner works collaboratively with the school community to further develop career education and pathway opportunities aligned with the school’s vision and the aspirations of its students. The role will involve supporting students to explore their interests, strengths and aspirations, understand the diversity of career and training pathways available to them, and make informed decisions about their future.

The successful applicant will ideally be innovative and collaborative, with the capacity to lead and support the implementation of career learning programs across year groups and learning areas. They will work alongside teachers to embed career development into classroom learning, while also developing opportunities for students to engage with employers, industry, training providers, community organisations and other pathway partners.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to succeed in the role. The successful applicant will be confident in developing relationships and sharing information with students, staff, parents and carers, training providers, employers and industry representatives. An understanding of the local employment and training landscape, including the diversity of pathways available to young people in regional Western Australia, will be highly regarded.

The successful applicant will ideally have completed, or be working towards, a Graduate Certificate in Career Development, or possess relevant qualifications and experience in career education and pathway development.

Additionaly, the Career Practitioner will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and implement relevant and engaging career education and career learning programs across Years 7–10 and into the senior years.
  • Support students to develop individual pathway plans and make informed decisions about their education, training and employment options.
  • Provide high-quality, current and unbiased career, pathway and labour market information.
  • Build strong partnerships with local employers, industry, training providers, universities, community organisations and other external agencies.
  • Coordinate work experience, workplace learning, industry engagement, Vocational Education and Training (VET) and other pathway opportunities.
  • Support teachers to embed career development and real-world learning opportunities across learning areas.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Services and school leadership to identify and support students who may require additional assistance to engage with future pathways.
  • Promote meaningful connections between classroom learning and future education, training and employment opportunities.
  • Contribute to a positive school culture in which students are encouraged to develop high aspirations and take ownership of their future.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families and relevant external stakeholders to ensure pathway information and opportunities are accessible and well understood.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School in 2026 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $4 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment. 

The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
