About the role

The Western Australian Office of Crime Statistics and Research (WACSAR) is responsible for researching and analysing crime and criminal justice issues and trends in Western Australia. The Office interprets and critically evaluates justice data to inform policy and government decision-making and policy development. The Office also works in partnership with other relevant agencies and stakeholders to independently evaluate criminal justice policies, programs and initiatives.

The Level 5 Statistical Analyst is primarily responsible for analysing and reporting on identified trends and issues, and undertaking statistical projects to meet strategic information needs, as directed.

Suitability Requirements

Through the recruitment process, we will be looking for candidate who can demonstrate skills, experience and attributes in relation to the following:

Achieves Results – candidates should be able to employ established analytic frameworks and inferential methods to analyse crime and justice data, and support projects to completion. Being capable at progressing work independently with appropriate upwards briefing on progress is a key skill in this role. Candidates should be capable at balancing project quality, flexibility in changing priorities, and the timely delivery of materials to support the Department’s strategic information.

Communicates and Influences Effectively – candidates should be building capability towards the effective communication of technical information in their analytic role to non-technical audiences (e.g., policy teams). Being capable at consulting with or sharing information within our team or with external teams, and keeping key stakeholders informed of project progress, are important to this role.

Shapes and Manages Strategy – candidates should demonstrate skill in understanding the broader organisational and whole-of-government agenda that underpins the strategic analytic work they will be engaged in. A capability to draw on varied sources of information and use evidence-based judgement to guide their work is important.

Self-Awareness and Personal Integrity – candidates should be capable of demonstrating a commitment to integrity and professionalism in their role, and seek to build their own capability in both communication and technical skills. Being capable at identifying contemporary technical developments relevant to the team’s work, and the opportunities they may represent to support strategic information development within the Department, are valuable skills within this role.
