The Legal and Legislative Services team in the Department of Health is a vibrant and multidisciplinary team of solicitors, legislative officers and administrators. We are proud to provide legal and legislative advice across a wide range of sensitive and high-profile matters across the Health portfolio.

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and dynamic lawyer to join our dedicated team. As a member of Legal and Legislative Services, you will provide sound and pragmatic legal advice and services across a broad and interesting range of matters, reflecting the wide scope of the Department of Health’s functions.

With the support of a great team, you will work closely and collaboratively with all areas of the Department of Health and other stakeholders. Your legal tasks will include complex, sensitive and high-profile work, including providing legal advice on commercial arrangements, policy initiatives, operational initiatives and litigation matters. You will provide advice on the statutory interpretation of the wide range of statutes in the Department of Health portfolio. You will be an integral part of an agile, supportive team of lawyers, legislative advisers and administrators, where you will have a high level of autonomy.

Joining Legal and Legislative Services will provide you with diverse opportunities for growth and development of your legal and leadership skills, including mentoring, acting opportunities, and assisting senior legal and legislative staff with high level and complex matters.

You also need to be eligible for admission, or admitted, as a legal practitioner in Western Australia together with considerable experience in a legal environment.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, applicants found suitable for this position may be considered for other ‘similar’ vacancies within DOH and/or the wider WA public sector. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
