The Biodiversity Information Office (BIO) has been created as a collaborative unit to enable innovative development and delivery of systems to capture, curate and report biodiversity data for the state of Western Australia (WA).
We currently have an opportunity for a Software Engineer to join our team.
This position supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of WA’s biodiversity data repository. Collaborating with a dynamic team of software and data engineers and science officers, they will support the ongoing enhancement of the Dandjoo application to meet the business objectives of the Biodiversity Information Office and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following five (5) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total.
- Demonstrated experience in backend development of information technology systems, with highly developed skills in Python including framework and libraries like FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, GeoPandas, Shapely.
- Experience in front-end development of web-based platforms, with highly developed skills in a range of frontend languages, including but not limited to, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience in one or more of the following technologies, frameworks and processes used within the department: React, Vue, NextJS, Django, Drupal, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure and/or DevOps processes.
- Experience in both relational and non-relational databases like Postgres, MongoDB.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a software engineer within a multi-disciplinary team to meet evolving business needs.
