Would you like to work in a genuinely exciting, flexible and friendly work environment? We offer a range of benefits, including flexible working hours and working at home, to help support you and get the best results possible for our community.

We value diversity and appreciate every individual’s perspective, bringing together a diverse and inclusive workforce to drive innovation and success. Whether it is enabling good governance to local communities, regulating racing, gaming and liquor activities, resolving consumer and trade disputes, monitoring compliance, protecting workers’ health and safety, or rolling out new technology to provide better customer service, LGIRS is committed to delivering for the benefit of WA and future generations.

The role

As the Senior Triage Inspector, you will form part of a dynamic psychosocial regulatory team responsible for regulating and investigating psychosocial hazards in workplaces under the Work Health and Safety framework.

The Senior Triage Inspector is a dual-purpose role that combines the assessment and triage of incoming psychosocial matters with the delivery of regulatory inspection and investigation activities. The role is responsible for evaluating notifiable dangerous incidents, serious injuries and diseases, and fatalities reported under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 to determine the most appropriate regulatory response, ensuring resources are directed to matters of highest risk and regulatory significance.

In addition to triage functions, the Senior Triage Inspector conducts inspections and investigations into psychosocial hazards, assessing whether duty holders have identified and controlled risks so far as is reasonably practicable. You will liaise with industry, government agencies and other stakeholders, conduct initial enquiries, utilise inspector powers where required, and ensure incidents are investigated in a timely manner.

Drawing on your experience in workplace health and safety, compliance, investigations, regulation or a related field, you will play a vital role in supporting effective regulatory oversight, protecting workers and workplaces, and contributing to improved safety outcomes across Western Australia. You will also be required to manage sensitive and confronting matters, engaging professionally and empathetically with individuals affected by serious workplace incidents and fatalities.

Your strong investigative, analytical and decision-making skills, together with your experience in incident assessment, stakeholder management, regulatory compliance, workplace inspections, or enforcement activities, will be key to your success in this role.

You will bring to the team your expertise in incident triage, risk assessment, workplace health and safety legislation, inspections and enforcement, and your ability to make sound judgements in complex situations, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and manage sensitive matters with professionalism and compassion. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, mentor less experienced team members, identify emerging workplace safety issues, support policy and legislative development, and foster a positive, collaborative team culture.

Please refer to the Job Description Form (JDF) attached for further information regarding the position, including any specific requirements, leadership capabilities and pre-employment checks which will be assessed as part of the selection process.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.
