Join our Policy team and help drive some of Western Australia's most significant driver and vehicle licensing reforms.

Current initiatives include reforming the Graduated Licensing System (GLS) for cars and motorcycles, replacing the Motor Vehicle Drivers Instructors Act 1963 with a contemporary legislative framework, progressing crash towing reforms, supporting national reforms for automated vehicles, and contributing to nationally significant policy initiatives through Austroads and the Registration and Licensing Task Force.

This is an opportunity to work on complex and rewarding projects from concept through to implementation, collaborating with senior decision-makers, government agencies, industry stakeholders and the broader community. You'll develop practical, evidence-based solutions that help shape policy and legislation at both a State and national level.

We're looking for motivated policy professionals who enjoy taking ownership, exercising sound judgement, building strong relationships and delivering practical outcomes in a dynamic environment.

There is currently:

• One (1) permanent Principal Policy Coordinator Level 6 position available for immediate filling;
• One (1) fixed-term Senior Policy Officer Level 5 position available until 30 June 2028, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency; and
• One (1) fixed-term Senior Policy Officer Level 5 position available until September 2027, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

About the Roles

Principal Policy Coordinator L6

This role is responsible for leading the development, analysis and implementation of complex policies and reforms that support effective driver and vehicle licensing outcomes across Western Australia. Working in a strategic and high-profile environment, you will lead major policy and reform initiatives from development through to implementation, provide expert policy advice to senior leaders and develop practical, evidence-based solutions that balance legislative requirements, operational needs and customer outcomes.

You will lead stakeholder engagement and consultation activities, manage competing priorities, identify and address emerging risks, and prepare high-quality briefing materials, submissions and reports. You will also provide leadership and guidance to other officers, helping to deliver projects and organisational priorities.

The suitability requirements for this role are:

• Highly developed research, analytical and conceptual skills with proven experience in policy formulation and implementation.
• Highly developed written communication skills with the ability to prepare detailed reports.
• Proven ability to apply legislation and policy and provide relevant advice to senior management.
• Think through complexity by applying critical thinking to policy issues, navigating ambiguity and uncertainty, assessing risks and impacts, and making informed decisions.
• Demonstrated leadership, accountability, and ability to work independently.

Senior Policy Officer L5

This role is responsible for developing, analysing and evaluating policy initiatives that support effective driver and vehicle licensing outcomes across Western Australia. Working in a complex legislative and operational environment, you will undertake research, provide evidence-based policy advice, identify risks and opportunities, and contribute to the development of practical solutions to policy and regulatory issues.

You will manage policy projects and workstreams, engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, prepare high-quality briefing materials and reports, and support the delivery of strategic and operational priorities.

The suitability requirements for this role are:

• Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of policy.
• Proven ability to interpret, apply and provide advice on relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
• Well-developed conceptual, analytical, research and evaluation skills, including the ability to make decisions and resolve complex problems.
• Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, together with the ability to engage and liaise with a variety of stakeholders.
• The ability to work in a team environment and to contribute to the achievement of team goals.
• Think through complexity by applying critical thinking to policy issues, navigating ambiguity and uncertainty, assessing risks and impacts, and making informed decisions
• Ability to work independently.
