Now is the time, make your move and join us

Are you an experienced GIS professional looking for a role where your technical expertise directly influences safety outcomes across Western Australia's resources sector? WorkSafe Mines Safety is seeking a Senior Geospatial Information Analyst to lead a unique and business-critical geospatial capability supporting regulatory oversight, critical risk management and emergency response activities across the State.

Would you like to work in a genuinely exciting, flexible and friendly work environment? We offer a range of benefits, including flexible working hours and working at home, to help support you and get the best results possible for our community.

This is not a typical GIS position. As the key dedicated geospatial specialist supporting WorkSafe's regulatory operations, you will work with unique datasets, historical mine records, critical risk mapping, dangerous goods information, regulatory investigations and emergency management support that directly contribute to the safety of workers across Western Australia. Few roles offer the diversity, autonomy and impact available through this position. This role will suit a technically capable GIS professional who enjoys solving complex spatial problems, working with diverse stakeholders and seeing their analysis contribute to practical safety outcome.

We value diversity and appreciate every individual's perspective, bringing together a diverse and inclusive workforce to drive innovation and success. Whether it is enabling good governance to local communities, regulating racing, gaming and liquor activities, resolving consumer and trade disputes, monitoring compliance, protecting workers' health and safety, or rolling out new technology to provide better customer service, LGIRS is committed to delivering for the benefit of WA and future generations.

The role

As the Senior Geospatial Information Analyst, you will deliver high-quality geospatial products, analysis and specialist advice that support regulatory operations and strategic initiatives across WorkSafe. You will be responsible for:

  • Providing specialist spatial analysis and mapping services to support regulatory activities and inspections.
  • Developing, maintaining and implementing GIS applications to meet internal and external customer information needs.
  • Capturing and maintaining spatial data on dangerous goods storage sites and ensuring the validity of spatial references.
  • Investigating and analysing anomalies in the integration of spatial data and responding to spatial enquiries.
  • Assisting in determining information needs for dangerous goods licensing activities, and analysing, acquiring and customising geospatial data to support those activities.
  • Managing the mine plan register and ensuring the integrity of its information.
  • Undertaking searches and investigating cartographic and digital information to respond to enquiries about mine plans.
  • Conducting historical research for customers using mine plans and other departmental resources.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of geospatial systems and participating in the formulation of geoscience policy and strategies, including new or improved products, processes and systems.
  • Providing advice to project teams and professional expertise when liaising with other professionals and technical staff.
  • Responding to enquiries about dangerous goods and explosives storage licences.

The role offers considerable variety and the opportunity to work with unique datasets, specialised regulatory information and stakeholders across government and industry.

Please refer to the Job Description Form (JDF) attached for further information regarding the position, including any specific requirements, leadership capabilities and pre-employment checks which will be assessed as part of the selection process.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department and across the WA public sector for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.
