About the role

The Healthy Weight Service based at Perth Children's Hospital is seeking a Senior Exercise Physiologist to join our multidisciplinary team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within an established statewide tertiary service supporting children and young people with severe, complicated obesity and associated health conditions. You will also be part of the broader Perth Children's Hospital Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology Department.

As the Senior Exercise Physiologist, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate exercise physiology services for children and adolescents attending the Healthy Weight Service alongside another Senior Exercise Physiologist.

Working alongside children, young people and their families, you will support participation in physical activity, improve functional outcomes and help families overcome barriers to sustainable lifestyle change. You will contribute to holistic care that considers the physical, developmental, social and emotional impacts of obesity and related health conditions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing specialist Exercise Physiology assessment, intervention and evaluation for children and adolescents.
• Applying advanced clinical skills to manage complex and varied clinical presentations.
• Participating in multidisciplinary assessment, care planning and review.
• Coordinating care with families, community providers and other health professionals to support continuity of care.
• Providing education and support to children, families, students and health professionals.
• Contributing to service development, quality improvement, research and evaluation activities.
• Supporting the supervision and development of students and junior staff as required.

We welcome applications from clinicians with experience in exercise physiology, chronic disease management and family-centred care. Experience working with children and adolescents is highly regarded.

To be considered for this role, you must hold a tertiary qualification in Exercise Science and be an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). The position is advertised using the current Senior Exercise Physiologist JDF, with the successful applicant primarily providing services within the Healthy Weight Service. This aligns with the approved recruitment approach for this position.

About Our Service

The Healthy Weight Service (HWS) is a specialist multidisciplinary service providing statewide tertiary-level care for children and young people aged 0-18 years with severe, complicated obesity and associated health and psychosocial challenges.

Children referred to the service may have chronic health conditions, cardiac and respiratory complications, neurodevelopmental conditions, mental health concerns, trauma histories and significant social challenges.

Our experienced multidisciplinary team provides evidence-based assessment, treatment, education and support tailored to the needs of each child and family. Care is delivered through collaboration between medical, dietetic, physiotherapy, exercise physiology and mental health professionals.

We aim to support sustainable lifestyle change, improve health outcomes and participation, reduce obesity-related complications and enhance quality of life for children and their families.

As part of Perth Children's Hospital Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology Department, staff also have access to a strong culture of education, quality improvement and professional development supported by experienced clinical leaders and educators.
