More Than Just a Job
Communities is establishing a recruitment pool to fill Senior Assessing Officer opportunities that may arise in the Working with Child Screening Unit and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Screening Unit.

The NDIS Worker Screening Unit conducts NDIS Worker Screening Checks and undertakes ongoing monitoring of clearance holders for Western Australia, as part of a National Disability Insurance Scheme (Worker Screening) Act 2020. NDIS Worker Screening Checks are compulsory for people who work in risk-assessed roles for registered NDIS providers. The scheme is a mechanism that helps NDIS providers determine that individuals seeking to work, or already working, do not present an unacceptable risk of harm to people with disability. The paramount consideration is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of people with disability and, in particular, their right to live free from abuse, violence, neglect and exploitation.

The WWC Screening Unit manages Working with Children (WWC) Checks for Western Australia and the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands for people who engage in certain paid or unpaid work with children, described as “child-related work” under the Working with Children (Screening) Act 2004. The unit aims to safeguard children through the ongoing collection and assessment of information that is relevant to whether a child may be exposed to a risk of harm if an individual is engaged in child-related work.

Your Role. Your Impact.
Senior Assessing Officers assess screening applications in accordance with legislation, approved standards and delegations. The role is responsible for:

  • Applying knowledge of the dynamics of abuse and offender behaviour (as it relates to children and people with disability).
  • Applying high levels of conceptual and analytical skills to make recommendations and decisions regarding risk assessment outcomes.
  • Supporting the team to ensure the development and maintenance of sound practice standards, so that quality decisions are being made within agreed timeframes and provides accurate advice to line management and key stakeholders.

This role involves exposure to confronting, offensive and potentially traumatic sensitive information. Staff in this role require resilience and the ability to personally manage this type of information and seek support where required.
