The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a critical participant in the administration of justice within Western Australia, providing an independent and effective criminal prosecution service and confiscation practice.

The Digital Business Enablement branch plays a key role in the provision and support of contemporary information governance, cyber security, technology platform, and business system capabilities to allow the ODPP to meet organisational goals and deliver against the strategic plan.

The Senior Applications Specialist (SAS) ensures an application architecture that aligns business systems with business requirements and leads the design, development, and support of enterprise applications while driving the adoption of Microsoft's AI and cloud technologies. This role is ideal for a hands-on developer who combines strong software engineering expertise with practical experience delivering AI-powered business solutions using the Microsoft technology stack.

Collaborating with organisational stakeholders, including the ODPP Program Management Office (PMO), the SAS provides input into business case development, supports business process analysis, and software package evaluation. The SAS leads systems design, software development, solution testing and systems implementation, working closely with technical teams to modernize applications, automate business processes, and leverage AI capabilities to improve productivity, decision-making, and customer outcomes. 

The SAS ensures ongoing operational and system governance support of the ODPP business applications and reporting systems including risk and user access management.

To be successful in this role, applicants will need to demonstrate:

  • Solid development skills and adherence to coding standards.
  • Knowledge of application and system design and the full application lifecycle.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communications and leadership skills.

Highly desirable is experience with Microsoft's AI ecosystem, including:

  • Azure OpenAI Service.
  • Azure AI Services.
  • AI-powered automation and workflow solutions.
  • Prompt engineering and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) concepts.
  • Large Language Models.

We have one permanent full-time position available to fill immediately from this process.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a recruitment pool. This pool will run for a period of twelve months and may be used to fill other similar permanent and fixed-term full time and part time vacancies if they arise and subject to business needs.
