ChemCentre is Western Australia’s leading chemical and forensic service provider. ChemCentre provides a comprehensive range of scientific services, working with a wide range of clients including Government Agencies, universities, environmental consultants, primary producers, exporters, retailers and the general public. The Research and Innovation Group is responsible for the identification, initiation and development of projects which address ChemCentre’s legislated mandate and commercial objectives. The Group undertakes research to better define and/or address chemical related risks to government and industry which in turn informs government client risk management and policy development options and industry investment and planning decisions.

About the program

Western Australia is a global leader in lithium production, and the Research and Innovation Group of ChemCentre is leading a collaborative research program to investigate the safe and sustainable reuse of Delithiated Beta Spodumene (DBS), a by-product generated during lithium refining. The program is helping government and industry understand how DBS may be safely used in infrastructure and construction applications while supporting circular economy outcomes and protecting human health and the environment.  For further information about the DBS program is available here.

About the roles

As part of the DBS initiative, we are seeking three (3) motivated Scientists (Chemist and Research Officers) to undertake research, data analysis and risk assessment that will inform future standards, policy and regulatory decisions. Working within the program, you will contribute to cutting-edge research and innovation activities, including environmental suitability assessments, human health and environmental risk evaluations, product characterisation, standards development, demonstration projects and regulatory support. The team operates at the interface of science, policy and industry, translating complex technical evidence into practical outcomes for government, industry and the community, solutions that support economic diversification and responsible resource stewardship.

We are looking for professionals with qualifications and strong skills in chemistry, environmental science or a related discipline, and an interest in applying scientific knowledge to real-world challenges. You will bring experience in scientific research, laboratory testing, data analysis and technical reporting, with the ability to interpret complex information and communicate practical findings to stakeholders.

An understanding of environmental geochemistry and hydrogeology, circular economy initiatives and sustainable resource management will be highly regarded.

Eligibility

To be eligible for fixed-term appointment, it is essential to have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period of the contract.

Prior to commencing employment, a National Police Clearance and Fitness for Work (alcohol and drug testing) will be required for a successful applicant.

Subsequent vacancies

Applicants found suitable but not recommended for appointment may be considered for subsequent similar vacancies for a period of 12 months from the date of finalisation of this selection process.
