School Psychologist
This is a 12 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2027 with possible extension (24 months) and/or permanency
The Indian Ocean Territories Schools, Christmas Island District High School (DHS) and Cocos Islands DHS are seeking to appoint a registered School Psychologist to join their teams.
The position is based on Christmas Island and the successful applicant will be required to travel to provide service to the schools on Cocos Islands.
Christmas Island District High School, is located 360 km southwest of Java and 2 600 km northwest of Perth. We cater for over 200 students from Pre-primary to Year 12 on our main site and more than 20 Kindergarten students at the Tom Patterson Kindergarten Centre. Our team of teachers and education assistants are selected through a rigorous merit selection process. Our school is well resourced which means class sizes are kept small and extra support is provided to classes in the areas of literacy, numeracy, information and communications technology, and pastoral care. Our commitment to valuing the home languages of the island means that students are offered the opportunity to learn either Mandarin or Bahasa Malay languages.
Cocos Islands DHS is undoubtedly one of the most unique educational environments in Australia and operates as a Kindergarden to Year 10 (K-10) school split across two campuses, West Island and Home Island. Situated on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, it is the most westerly of Australia's territories, lying in the Indian Ocean approximately 2900 kilometres northwest of Perth and 2600 kilometres west of Darwin. Its nearest neighbour is Christmas Island, located 900 kilometres to the northeast. The school embraces multiculturalism and inclusivity.

The Role
The Indian Ocean Territories Schools, Christmas Island District High School (DHS) and Cocos Islands DHS are seeking to appoint a registered School Psychologist to join their teams. The position is based on Christmas Island and the successful applicant will be required to travel to provide service to the schools on Cocos Islands. To be successful for this role you will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and will be able to collaborate and work effectively with the leadership teams, staff, students, parents and other agencies.
The successful applicant will ideally be able to develop and maintain positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, consult widely, and able to work effectively as both part of a team and independently when required.
The successful applicant will ideally collaborate closely with school leadership and Student Support teams. They will join communities of motivated and innovative educators committed to ensuring the wellbeing and educational outcomes of students.
In this role you will provide psychological services and evidence-based assessments and interventions in learning and disability, mental health and well-being, positive behaviour and risk and incident management. You should have the capacity to bring a psychological perspective to issues presenting at the schools and community contexts to maximise the educational and psycho-social outcomes of individuals and groups of students and will be supporting and facilitating organisational change.
Note: This position requires the ability to work independently as a psychologist. Applicants will need to possess general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

- Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.
