About us

The Western Australian Museum is a vibrant centre of inspiration, learning and enjoyment for everyone. It preserves, documents and shares collections relating to the State’s natural and cultural heritage. It collaborates with people across Western Australia to share the stories and voices of diverse communities. It works alongside national and international organisations, contributing to global research, promoting life-long learning, and developing and hosting world-class exhibitions.

The Museum of the Great Southern precinct overlooks picturesque Mamang Koort / Princess Royal Harbour on the site of the first European permanent settlement in Western Australia (1826). Here you will find permanent and travelling exhibitions, a replica of the Brig Amity, pop-up artworks, public and educational programs, and information on the natural and social history of the region. The Museum shares the stories of the Menang Noongar people and the influence of Mokare, an intermediary who assisted European explorers in an unfamiliar environment. It also explores the region's unique landscapes, flora, and fauna.

About the role

Shape the Future of Culture in the Great Southern!

Are you ready to lead a vibrant regional Museum and make a lasting impact?

The primary purpose of the Regional Manager role is to lead the strategic and operational management of the Museum of the Great Southern, by delivering public programs, exhibitions, and community engagement initiatives that promote Western Australian history, culture, and environment; while managing people, resources, and partnerships and contributing to WA Museum-wide strategies and priorities.

As part of this role, working closely with Aboriginal Elders, artists, and communities is essential—you will help to ensure that their voices and stories are at the heart of what we do.

Special conditions:

  • Working outside normal business hours and at weekends will be required from time to time.
  • A current “C”-Class Driver’s License is required.

About you

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated leader who thrives on challenges and wants to make a real difference in regional communities. If you are passionate about museums, love working with people and community, and enjoy creating programs and cultural experiences that matter, this is your chance to shine!

As the successful candidate, you will be expected to:

  • Lead a passionate team to deliver engaging exhibitions, events, and programs that celebrate local and regional stories.
  • Drive strategic and business planning to position the Museum as a cultural hub in the Great Southern.
  • Build strong partnerships with community leaders, Aboriginal Elders, artists, and organisations.
  • Represent the Museum in the community and contribute to WA Museum-wide initiatives.
