The Department of Treasury and Finance is at the centre of Government decision-making. As the principal economic and financial advisor, we provide leadership and strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australia.

What we do is integral to the Government’s decision-making processes about where and how to spend taxpayer’s money to ensure Western Australians have access to quality services on a financially sustainable basis.

We lead procurement and leverage our buying power to secure products and services for government, achieving value for money for WA.

We collect revenue to fund government services and administer payment of grants and subsidies to the WA community.

The work area

This role sits within the Commercial Advisory Directorate which is part of the Advisory Services Business Unit. The Commercial Advisory team works with agencies and advisors to provide commercial and contractual expertise for large and complex transactions and projects. These projects cover many different areas of Government (e.g. Health, Utilities, Justice, Housing, Ports, and others) and include those involving Government Trading Enterprise (GTEs) and semi-commercial entities within Government. They represent some of the largest, most significant and complex projects on the Government’s agenda.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced commercial specialist to provide advice to the Department of Treasury and Finance executives and the Government, on high-value and high-risk commercial transactions.

In this role, you will primarily:

• undertake commercial assessments of proposals for significant transactions or capital-intensive ventures;
• lead the implementation of commercial transactions in accordance with the Government’s policy, financial and commercial objectives;
• provide advice to enable decision-making on complex issues in a dynamic environment, often involving significant stakeholder interest, public scrutiny, and sensitivity; and
• lead projects requiring expertise in commercial and legal terms, business strategy, forecasting, scenario analysis, risk, financial modelling and investment analysis to support decision-making.

The Department of Treasury and Finance will offer a fixed term contract of up to 5 years with a competitive remuneration package to the outstanding candidate with the skills, experience and leadership capabilities required for this specialist role.
