The Role

Churchlands SHS is seeking an outstanding and committed educational leader to join our Student Services team as Program Coordinator - Head of Year. This is an exciting opportunity for a student-centred leader to make a significant contribution to student wellbeing, engagement and achievement while helping shape the positive culture of one of Western Australia's leading public secondary schools.

Churchlands SHS is recognised for excellence in academic achievement, student wellbeing, music, sport and community engagement. The successful applicant will join a collaborative leadership team dedicated to supporting students to thrive academically and personally.

Working within one of our three sub-schools, the Head of Year leads a team of House Coordinators and Student Services staff to provide high-quality pastoral care and support. A distinctive feature of our pastoral care model is that Heads of Year and House Coordinators remain with their cohort throughout secondary school, enabling strong relationships with students and families. The successful applicant should be willing and able to work across our sub-school structure.

The role includes a teaching allocation of 0.2 FTE, enabling the successful applicant to also maintain a strong connection to classroom practice.

We are seeking a highly relational leader with exceptional interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and a strong commitment to student wellbeing and positive behaviour support. The successful applicant will ideally promote the school's vision, foster a culture of shared responsibility, and provide leadership that supports positive outcomes for students and staff.

As Head of Year, you would play a key role in shaping school culture, leading strategic wellbeing initiatives, and contributing to whole-school improvement through collaborative planning, policy development and effective systems. Responsibilities include pastoral care, attendance and behaviour management, academic monitoring, data analysis, targeted student intervention, and year-group programs.

The successful applicant will ideally be able to use student data to identify trends, inform decisions and implement strategies that improve engagement, wellbeing and achievement. Highly developed organisational skills, initiative and a solutions-focused approach are essential, along with the ability to work effectively with students, families, staff and external agencies. Experience coordinating whole-school programs and events, including assemblies, examinations, excursions, NAPLAN and OLNA, will be highly regarded.
