Now in our tenth year, we have grown quickly in both size and reputation while holding to our commitment to Excellence Everywhere. We draw students from diverse cultural, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds into a learning environment built on high expectations, aspiration and achievement.

Dedicated pastoral care, active community engagement and our values of Care, Respect, Responsibility and Excellence shape daily life here.

Our comprehensive Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) program sits alongside high-quality General and Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways, so students can pursue the destination that suits them. Specialist programs include Gifted and Talented (GAT), the Harrisdale Extension Academic Program (HEAP), and specialised Music and Sport programs in Cricket, Netball and Volleyball, supported by a wide range of clubs, teams and enrichment opportunities that extend students at state, national and international level.

The Role

Harrisdale SHS is seeking an accomplished, relational and highly organised leader for the position of Program Coordinator, Student Services Manager. This Level 3 position will lead the wellbeing, pastoral care, engagement and behaviour support of students within an allocated year group, while contributing to the strategic direction of Student Services across the school.

While the successful applicant may lead any year group from Years 7 to 12, the position has a particular focus on the lower-school years. This includes supporting students’ transition to secondary school, developing their sense of belonging, establishing positive patterns of attendance and engagement, and ensuring emerging concerns are identified and addressed early.

Working closely with Associate Principals, Year Coordinators, teaching staff and the broader Student Services team, the Program Coordinator would provide visible and responsive leadership. They will establish consistent practices, build staff capability and ensure students are known, supported and held to high expectations.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • leading the pastoral care, attendance, engagement and behaviour support of students within an allocated year group;
  • coordinating early intervention and case-management processes for students at educational risk, including student support groups, suspension conferences and re-entry planning;
  • using Compass and other data sources to identify priorities, monitor students and evaluate interventions;
  • leading Homeroom and pastoral care programs that promote belonging, resilience, positive relationships and readiness to learn;
  • supporting the consistent implementation of Good Standing and positive behaviour processes;
  • building productive partnerships with students, families, staff, external agencies and community services;
  • coordinating relevant assemblies, parent information sessions, transition activities and student events;
  • supporting course counselling, subject changes and pathway planning where appropriate; and
  • developing and implementing plans aligned with whole-school priorities and the values of Care, Respect, Responsibility and Excellence.

For lower-school students, the role may include working with local primary schools, coordinating transition and orientation programs, supporting parent information sessions and ensuring vulnerable students receive appropriate support before and after commencing secondary school.

The successful applicant will ideally display:

  • effective leadership in student services, pastoral care, behaviour support or a related area;
  • the capacity to lead cohesive teams and develop the capability of others;
  • strong relationship-building and communication skills, including during complex or sensitive situations;
  • the ability to use evidence and data to guide decisions and evaluate impact;
  • a sound understanding of the developmental and educational needs of lower-school students;
  • strong organisational skills and sound judgement in managing competing priorities; and
  • visible commitment to student success, the school’s values and Excellence Everywhere.

This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the culture of one of Western Australia’s largest secondary schools and to ensure students experience a safe, orderly and supportive environment in which they can thrive.
